Foreword
Clever, entertaining and fast-paced, Galileo is a refreshing departure from your usual Asian idol drama or romcom. What Taiwan’s Pi Li MIT should have been.

Review
As anyone can tell from scanning my review list, I don’t watch many Japanese series. However, this series came highly recommended by a fellow reviewer who tends to share my tastes (most of the time). After Googling the series and seeing the poster, my first thought was “What the – is that Ekin Cheng? And Emme Wong?” Can you tell I’m from Hong Kong?

Before I get stabbed by the, er, enthusiastic Fukuyama fans, let me say that he only looks like Ekin Cheng in the poster i.e. when he’s not moving. Same with Shibasaki. Moving on.

I was not disappointed with this series, unlike all the other times I’ve been duped into watching overhyped series (I’m still recovering from War of In-Laws). The basic formula for Galileo is similar to the detective-style series of 90s TVB, but of course with striking differences:

1. The cases are creative, clever, and some are borderline creepy in that very Japanese way. Case in point (pun intended) is the fake suicide one with the hanging contraption. Some of my favourite cases were the very first one with the laser beam, and the one involving the mirage in the factory.

2. The romance between the two leads is subtle and doesn’t really end in a “Ashiteru!!!” (I love you in Japanese) nor is it the main focus, thankfully.

3. Unexpectedly funny moments. My favourite was when Yukawa is trying to dismantle the bomb in the last case to save Utsumi, and at first she talks about pink and blue chords and Yukawa dryly says “You watch too many cartoons”. Then when he gets to the last dismantling task, he sees a pink and blue chord and then mutters “I should have watched more cartoons”.

4. Case-solving is based on actual logical explanations topped by physics theories. Whereas you get half-assed, not very scientific resolutions in TVB cases (the NOT MATCH flashing screen in Forensic Heroes is my example of choice here), the cases in this series seem impossible at first – with a touch of paranormal – but after the revelations by Yukawa, everything makes sense. Unfortunately, similar to TVB’s detective series, every case ends in a confession. Boooooooring.

5. Great characterization. Though the character of Utsumi is nothing new, Yukawa sensei was very well-written and Fukuyama’s performance nailed the character to a T.

My complaints about the series are minor. Whereas the plot and cases are fast-moving, fun, stylish, the character development stays flat. For someone used to character arcs and/or linear development, Galileo won’t quite float your boat. The way Yukawa always scrambles to find something to write with when he gets the AHA moment to solve a case also gets somewhat tiring. Aside from Fukuyama’s and Shinagawa’s spot-on performances, the acting was pretty much a bore. All that aside, though, Galileo sticks to its purpose and pretty much delivers.

To Watch or Not to Watch, That is the Question
Highly recommended for mystery fans or for anyone who is getting bored with the same-old formula for Asian series.

BIJO KA YAJUU [BEAUTY OR BEAST][TV][Japan]

Written by Funn Lim

"He (Fukuyama Masaharu) is charismatic no doubt, very handsome of course, he can act dead serious very well but in here, in this series after watching it in full I realise this may be his best performance todate."

SPOILERS ... SPOILERS ... SPOILERS

Japanese title
美女か野獣

Interestingly I used a rather reliable online translator which translated the title as "It is a beautiful woman or it is a brute" which I suppose does mean Beaty Or Beast. Alternate title is Kiss Or Fight? which I was hoping for KISS KISS KISS. Spoiler alert; there is ONE kiss at the almost very end. But plenty of fight.

Released in
Way back in 2003

By
FujiTV

No. of Episodes
11

Language
Japanese with English subtitles thanks to MediaCorp as the version I watched was a TV rip from MediaCorp

Average Ratings
Pretty high, 18.5%

Cast-Character
To those unfamiliar with Asian way of names, family name comes first, then family name. But as demonstrated in this series, Japanese does seem to favour calling a person by their surname than their given name.

Matsushima Nanako as Takamiya Makoto
Fukuyama Masaharu as Nagase Hiromi
Watanabe Ikkei as Kuze Teruhiko
Yashima Norito as Towatari Kantaro
Sasaki Kuranosuke as Kote Hiroshi
Shiraishi Miho as Shirai Yukino
Nagai Masaru as Yamamoto Takeshi
Papaya Suzuki as Kacchin
Fukaura Kanako as Akiyama Fujiko
Kodama Kiyoshi as Sakuragi Kyoichiro
Shimizu Shogo as Tamaru Reishi
Shiga Kotaro as Tsurumaki Yukio
Yamamoto Ryuuji as Sakamoto Daisuke
Morishita Tetsuo as Todo Seichi
Okada Tadashi

For those unfamiliar with Japanese stars as in acting point of view, some of the names above are familiar names. You know who is Fukuyama Masaharu. No? He was the lead in Galileo and also was in the mega hit, Under The Same Roof. Watanabe Ikkei, his frequent co-star was the assistant in Galileo as well as in Ryoma-Den and To Daisuke In Heaven. Kodama Kiyoshi looked so familiar until I checked and realised he was Ryoma's father in Ryoma-Den. I have no idea who is Papaya Suzuki but his name is very cool! Imagine that, Papaya! He's the guy with the afro in the series. As for Matsushima Nanako, she was the lady lead where she I believe she met her future husband, Sorimachi Takashi in the hit series, GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka). For international audiences, you might recognise her from The Ring (Japanese version) movies. The rest I may have seen them before but frankly I do not know.

Plot Summary
Taken from Wiki

After graduating from the Tokyo University School of Law, Takamiya Makoto (Matsushima Nanako) goes on to Harvard University where she earns an MBA. She later works at one of the "big three" networks in the United States as a news reporter. While covering a story on an international symposium in Paris, Makoto is scouted to work for JBC Television in Japan. The news producer at JBC wants to use Makoto to help raise low viewer ratings. He persuades her to work for him for an absurdly high salary, and also gives her the right to hire who she needs.

While Makoto is being brought in to be the savior of the News Department, one man gets transferred from the Variety Department. His name is Nagase Hiromi (Fukuyama Masaharu). Since joining JBC Television, all he has done is variety programs. Although Hiromi has done everything he possibly could to ensure his programs are a success, his boss just could not take anymore of Hiromi's behavior which ranged from getting caught up in scandals with female television personalities, punching-out assistant directors, to taking kickbacks from production companies. His boss finally tells Hiromi to make a fresh start in the "hard nosed" News Department.

So now the News Department has Makoto who thinks high ratings are the meaning of life, and Hiromi who values the success of a program as just a tool for the full enjoyment of life. These two totally different personalities mix it up and somehow reach a mutual understanding, creating a delightful "light comedy" for adults.

It took me quite a long time to finish watching this series because it took me a long time to download the only known subtitled copy in the internet and then remembering I haven't watched it yet, I finished the entire series in about 2 days. It is not difficult to finish even in one day since it is only 11 episodes, and each episode isn't exactly a full hour. The synopsis above is pretty accurate except for one point,  that both main protaganists of the story knew and were lovers 9 years 3 months before the meeting at the beginning of the series where the series will slowly reveal the nature of their relationship and why and how they parted. The past does explain why the present they is a bit playful and serious (for the man and the woman) respectively.

First thing first, may I proclaim my undying love for this series for several reasons, first and foremost is of course it stars my favourite singer/actor or rather my current obsession, Fukuyama Masaharu, henceforth Masha. But those who knows me by my reviews will know I don't always favour a series simply because I favour the actor(s) in it. So the other reason for my proclamation is because I really do like the story. If you read the synopsis, it does remind you a bit of Korea's All About Eve but it stops at the similarity being news. Nothing else is similar. Whilst All About Eve which was excellent in performance and story wise was after a while meandering and slow, Beauty Or Beast is not as meandering or wishy washy when it comes to love. It isn't even about love, but centres on a department of JBC (Japan Broadcasting Channel - should have been Corporation) that broadcasts the Evening News. Just the Evening News mind you. And with 11 episodes and if unfamiliar with the Japanese way of storytelling, I won't blame you for thinking "Isn't it a little short?". It is, but what the Japanese are good act which Koreans and especially HKTVB aren't is brevity. In 11 episodes, they can tell the entire backstory of this small TV crew, with each episode dedicated to one character of the crew whilst managing to relate it back to the 2 leading protaganists and also put forward a moral of the story, even if the moral is somewhat shoddy. In 11 episodes, I knew the back story of the characters without being shown a flashback scene and the ending is pretty definite in my opinion. These are reasons why I really like this series. It is just 11 episodes, and complete and done with compared to TVB's Gem Of Life which took more than 80 episodes to tell a story worth 20 episodes and even that the characters were poorly written and sometimes poorly portrayed. The actors were well chosen, each just right for their role even if you at first may think "No way! Not suitable at all!". I will talk more on this later.

First, the story. It is by no means perfect. As stated earlier, it is about the Evening News department of JBC whose ratings were falling so badly that the management decided to hire a hotshot young news reporter, Makoto as the new chief who paid her dues in credentials in America with news on terrorists, riots, etc so you know she's good at what she does. And she will be highly paid as well. Once she returned to Japan, she found herself working alongside a shady character that is Hiromi who was transferred from variety channel to the news channel for reasons we shall find out later. This series explains being in variety channel which is ratings driven and news channel which is news driven is very different but Hiromi, however much he flirts or jokes his way around does know his job as a producer generally. And for 11 episodes, we get to see how Makoto tried to win ratings at all cost whilst it was Hiromi who acts as her conscience but towards the end Makoto herself helped Hiromi gained his integrity by dealing a bit with his mysterious transfer to the news department whilst at the same time having to choose between her principles and her father which is the big finale. In the middle of it all we see stories of retrenchment, the battle between 2 rival stations where Makoto realises sometimes ratings isn't everything, the worth of her colleagues and the value of integrity when it comes to news reporting.

Of all the episodes, I really enjoyed the story about Sakuragi the aging but legendary anchor of Evening News and one more whose name I didn't catch, the small sized reporter with glasses who instead of capturing news actually dropped the camera to held save a construction worker's life. These 2 stood out because the stories are touching. In just simply less than 1 hour each, the entire story of these 2 men were told in straightforward manner. Sakuragi was about to be replaced by a much popular, handsomer and younger anchor hired from another station to boost ratings, as usual by the management whose meddling often harms the department rather than helps. Sakuragi was given no choice but to leave for cable TV which has less audience but needed his expertise. And in that episode we will find out why Sakuragi is a legend and how he calmly reported on a bank heist with coolness and ease, and why Evening News isn't the same without him. In fact somewhere towards the end Evening News was in the danger of becoming less about news and more about variety show! There was one very good scene where the cocky new anchor said the success of a show is the anchor so every details must centre on the anchor that is him and him alone. But in the end when faced with the same question by Makoto who feels the way that the cocky anchor does, Hiromi simply said the success of a show is teamwork. No man can operate alone, it is all about team work and again another lesson for Makoto who strives at nothing but ratings.

The other story of the bespectacled colleague who was also on the verge of being fired and questioned his own self worth as a reporter taught Makoto a lesson in life; sometimes news reporting isn't everything and winning awards certainly isn't. She was slightly ashamed of her crew when she saw how efficient the Diamond News Channel crew was and was often told the obstacle to her success are her crew but in the end she told the bespectacaled subordinate to do as he deems fit in future, that she trusts his judgment and that gave him a confident boost and tells us Makoto isn't such an ice queen after all. These 2 stood out for their performances and storytelling.

Another stand out episode was the one dealing with a snowstorm and the Morning News crew couldn't report back in time and Makoto is tasked with doing the Morning show as well, something she didn't expect to do. She pushes her fellow subordinates who complain to no end but did try their best to work under dangerous and tiring circumstances. I love the scene where Makoto, Hiromi and gang thought everything was in place for the morning show until they realise the anchor that is Sakuragi is missing. They ran to find him, and found out he was stuck in a lift. But when they pry open the lift, to their astonishment there stood the old Sakuragi, cool as a cucumber, fixing his time, and cooly running several floors up to make it to the front of the camera in time. They were amazed at his age, he could run that fast. That was a genuinely funny scene and did opened their eyes to their fellow colleagues, who each have their own weaknesses and in the end strengths and thus each contribute to the Evening News in their own way.

There was an episode which deals with Hiromi's transfer from Variety dept to News dept and how he dealt with one of his long time friend's silence when one of the assistant was badly beaten up by the hotshot host. I really believe that could really happen, more so in Japan and even in Korea. The scene between Hiromi and his friend and their heartfelt talk with his friend asking "Are you bitter Nagase?" because he thought Hiromi revealed the news and is pushing him to admit the news out of spite when Hiromi said something which kinda admits he is bitter because he always felt his friend was more talented than he is, without this show, there will always be new ideas from him to form another show where his friend can be the top producer. I find that scene and Hiromi's honesty heartfelt and that opened his friend's eyes how foolish it is to protect such a host who treats them like dogs.

We will see also personal lives of very few characters but the major one has to be of course the showdown between Makoto and her father whom she respects and love deeply. When she found out he may be doing some dirty job for his employer (his father is a high ranking secretary to a high ranking minister) which involves bribing witnesses and hurting the credibility of not just the Evening News but the entire crew, she thought for a while and then didn't hesitate to expose her father who probably ends up in jail or as a star witness in the end. Why did she do it? As she said; "Principles". She was hurt her father ignored his principles and he taught her well, she stood by her principles even if it meant hurting her father, which is something Hiromi didn't understand. In the end her father was rather pleased it was her and no one else who exposed him and he stood before her, prouder of his daughter than he has ever been. That scene was rather touching even if a bit dramatic. But then news can sometimes be very dramatic, even more dramatic in real life than in fiction so there is a believable aspect in all those drama.

I also like the slow reveal of the relationship between Makoto and Hiromi. I thought at first what they had 9 years before during their university days were just a fling. But as the series went on, it was quite possibly Makoto's first love and a serious enough relationship where Makoto once knitted him a scarf, he was concerned enough about her to say he didn't like handmade stuff, that she liked him enough to want to introduce him to her father and he liked her enough to have rushed to the airport to try to stop her from leaving Tokyo for Harvard University. The way they met again in the beginning were like strangers but there was more, with the way she stole glances at him, he stole glances at her but 9 years is a pretty long separation although we all know they still have feelings for each other.

What surprises me was for such a playful character Hiromi actually graduated from Tokyo University! You would think he is academically poor but he is just playful.

Which brings me to the point why this series isn't perfect.

Some parts are downright sexist and ridiculous. I know it is supposed to illustrate some cultural thing or perhaps Hiromi's character but the audition for a weather girl with young girls wearing 3 piece bikinis to audition is of course a very sexist scene. But Hiromi's reaction was funny. Then the weather girl who was hired not because of her bikini body but because she does have cute factor was for most part relegated to making coffee for her seniors and in the beginning so afraid of losing her job she herself proposed to wear shorter skirts. That is very telling on what sort of society we are dealing with. Then there's Hiromi visiting an all girls' school and how he oggled at teenaged girls who may I remind is younger than 18? We all know Makoto is one power woman because she had to deal with an all male management team but I wonder to what purpose does it serve to show her bottom being pinched even if playfully and then to show her willing to sleep with a minister to get his exclusive interview. She may be intelligent but she can be stupid sometimes.

And what is even more ridiculous is that that horny minister dared ask her to sleep with him! Why? As we know later, her father is high ranking guy working for an even higher ranking guy, she knows a lot of high ranking people, one high ranking guy working for the PM wanted to date her, she has her connections and here this horny corrupt minister dared ask her to sleep with him for a scoop. I mean she is no ordinary woman. I find that part utterly ridiculous. She should have just said "Touch me one more time and I will have your credentials stripped" not because as a newswoman she can do that but because of her family connections. The fact she didn't say that was disappointing.

And some may be quite offended by the fact that such an intelligent women need saving by a brute like Hiromi again and again, like a damsel in distress. But I will disagree on this. It just shows Hiromi may be capable but sometimes even a capable person makes wrong choices. You learn from your mistake. Hiromi's mistake was not listening to her subordinates and Hiromi, a crowd pleaser teaches her the value of teamwork. She in turn teaches Hiromi certain things as well.

The ridiculous part is sometimes I wonder is Evening News a news show or a talk show or a discussion forum show? Because towards the end with the Top 50 Ramen and what nots, it was dangerously becoming a variety show. I thought it was a news reporting like Bulletin News or CNN so I was very confused as to what is Evening News and I suspect so were the characters towards the end.

Which brings me to the characters. Well written and well performed, each character contributes to the story and I don't believe there was a moment wasted in storytelling even if some parts do drag on a bit, like the relationship between Hiromi and Makoto itself. Other than that I find the story well paced and the characters serves the story rather than the other way around. Which of course means the actors did a great job.

Fukuyama Masaharu is in no doubt my current obsession and he is a mighty fine singer/songwriter but as an actor? I loved him in all of his works I have seen, even if he was sometimes criticised in Suspect X the movie, I could explain why I love him so. But having seen some of his works fully and a few with a bit here and there, and him being less an actor and more a singer, I could lament the fact that if only he concentrated on acting more. He is charismatic no doubt, very handsome of course, he can act dead serious very well but in here, in this series after watching it in full I realise this may be his best performance todate. Hiromi can be quite a disgusting character with his flirtatious and sometimes sexist nature but Masha made him adorable, and with a bit of heart and integrity. After all Hiromi was the first to see the worth of his fellow colleagues when Makoto failed miserably. Masha played him very animatedly, in fact his most animated performance todate. I love his interaction with his fellow co-stars and the way he portrayed his character with his exagerated hand movements, body language and some rather signature greeting styles. And during the more serious moments, he toned down and showed us a serious or mournful looking Hiromi who has more on his thoughts than he lets it out. He plays Hiromi as a more relaxed and warm person rather than Makoto who is dead serious and cold. I was quite amazed by his performance and some part of me suspects this may be the real Masha at that time. He may have been Hiromi, except I suppose he won't wolf whistle the young girls in bikini. An excellent performance by Masha.

Matsushima Nanako whom I quite like but rarely watch isn't some stunning beauty but her hair in this series fits her perfectly. I am thankful she wasn't wearing an apron in this series but she does speak in an infuriatingly soft spoken small voice which much later I realise is her real voice. She is very soft spoken in real life and in this series she was also soft spoken. She can't even shout and so I wondered how can she be some fearless iron lady but she proved she can with her steely eyes and her body language which means no funny business. She always stand with authority and exerted a certain how shall I put it, authority and control in the scene she is in. Yes she did raised her voice a bit but not shouting. However I find her effective as an iron lady, even if her English sucks. A great performance in my opinon and her chemistry with Masha is one of the best of all Masha's pairing with other actresses, and sometimes quite intimate without a single hug or kiss. They're always several feet apart and yet you feel the closeness between them. However that being said, why is it Hiromi is always out of breath when speaking with Makoto? Why was he always running after her?

I will not elaborate on the other cast but I could very well say all performances are excellent. The acting animated and the voices just right even for some girls again that kittenish voice which is the staple of Japanese culture. I can't fault their performances really, and a special mention goes to Watanabe Ikkei who can play serious and comic characters. All versatile actors that elevated this series from good to excellent.

I keep forgetting about this aspect which is understandable because when done well, it is not to be noticed, and I am talking about consistency in scenes. I wasn't paying much attention to this aspect until one scene Motoko was in her house wearing a shiny looking straight skirt. Few scenes later she is in office and the same skirt. Now that is consistency, she woke up in morning getting dressed for work and at work same dress. And we are talking about 2 different scenes.

A note on the subtitles of this series. I know they're hardcoded into the TV rip, probably provided by MediaCorp themselves but I am curious why they kept getting Makoto's name wrong. It is always Tamiya instead of Takamiya and then it is never Sakamoto but something else. One part I couldn't believe "Yamete, kudasai" could translate to "Please respect me ..." which is longer than I remember because the original words should be "No, please" or "Stop, please" which makes me wonder did they translate from Chinese subtitles? How can 2 words can become a full sentence? But apart from that I am just happy there is a subtitled version. It does seem credible to that of the story so I will take the essence of the translation rather than the literal meaning.

Verdict
I know it is suffering to download the entire series because it is slow but if you're a fan of Japanese series or Masha or Nanako, this is the series to watch. I absolutely enjoyed the story and I believe even if Masha is not in it, I will still enjoy it. It is fun, funny, touching and serious, all at the same time and since it is only 11 episodes, what can you lose?

Interesting Themesong
I love the opening sequence and I love the themesong called Ginga to Meiro which translates as The Galaxy and Maze (some may translate it as The Milky Way and Maze) sung by a band with an even cooler name, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. You can find the opening/ending sequence, the original MV, the MP3 and Romaji lyrics here. If you know where I can find the English translation for the lyrics, do tell!!

Interesting Download
Can you still buy this series? Fear not! You can download this series. Quality is bad but at least subtitled. All here.

Interesting Screencaps
You will see the exact same sets in my other posts about this series and is reposting here because I really like them!

P/S THE ENDING
Spoilers.

Evening News is not cancelled. Makoto leaves for America, starts her own production company and goes full time into news reporting like she did before. But she maintained contact with Hiromi although we are not told if they're an item but can safely deduce they will be since their parting scene was a hug, a kiss and a smile from Makoto. Life goes on in the JBC Evening News dept with Kuze as acting Chief and they continue to put news integrity first, management wishes last.

YOUR HANDS ARE WHISPERING [Jap]

Written by Funn Lim

This review was posted many years ago, exactly when I am not sure but it should be within months from the original broadcast of this series. I am posting it as I have posted it originally.

SPOILERS ... SPOILERS ... SPOILERS

Title: Kimi No Tega Sasayaite Iru

Huh?! : In English, Your Hands Are Whispering.

Any Other Language?! : In Mandarin, Ni Ling Ai Liao Bu Chi, in Cantonese, Nei Ling Oi Liu But Hei, in translated English from the translated Chinese, Love Is Wonderful Because Of You, well, not THAT accurate though.

Note : I saw the mandarin version so the names will be in Mandarin version.

Cast: I only know two actors who played the two leads, the rest I can't tell who they portrayed, so here goes,

Shinji Takeda - Buo Wen (Hirofumi)
Miho Kanno - Mei Rong Tzi (Mieko)
Hikotero Honda, Midori Kiuchi, Mariko Kaga for characters such as Papa and Mama Buo Wen, Papa and Mama Mei Rong Tzi, Nai Bao Tzi (best friend of Mei Rong Tzi) and Qian Her (daughter of our two leads).

Length : The shortest ever for a Japanese Drama (that I have ever seen); 6 episodes! And My God!In 6 episodes they said what they have wanted to say, but series like ATE, they took 100 eoisodes to finish their story! That would mean that in ATE's standard, by 6 episodes, there aren't much that has been told. Amazing!

Summary : A touching and poignant story about how a deaf and mute woman coped with her own lack of confidence and marrying the normal man that she loved, and how she later tried to cope with her daughter's frustration at her mother's disability and more importantly, how her child coped with a disabled mother, so to speak.

The Story:
A simple story on the outset but quite complicated if we reflect on it after watchinge each episode.

The structure of the story can be divided into 3 main parts, each with two episodes worth of story, each depicting the different stages that these two leads had to go through to find total acceptance, in life, in their daughter and in their ownself.

Part 1 : Love & Marriage
Mei Rong Tzi has been protected all her life by her protective and loving parents but it was time for her to step into the real world and so she took a job as a clerk in a medium sized company and to everybody's shock, this young girl could not speak though she tried and she could not hear them. She used her hands to communicate and so she was an outcast in the perfect notmal world since she was deaf and mute though she could mumble a few incoherent sentences as she had a little hearing ability when she was little. She had no friends there except for her own childhood friend with the same disability called Nai Bao Tzi, a lady supervisor who was sympathetic with her because she too had a sister with such disability and she was runned down by a? car she could not hear approaching her. And there was one particular young man by the name of Buo Wen who liked her because she was pure and she was different from the rest of the girls he has met. He was the first to approached her and signed to her good morning which he had leanred just to do that and they became fast freinds. But after an unfortunate incident where MRT (Mei ROng Tzi) was stranded on a train that had engine problems and she could not deliver an important document in time, she felt useless and she felt that due to her disability she was imposing on other people to help her.S he never came back to work until Buo Wen went to her and confessed that he loved her and apologised to her for giving her a work that she was not ready to handle yet. She went back to work and so the romance started, however it did not go smoothly. Buo Wen lied about being at work but actually he was at a rock concert as he did not want ton hurt her feelings and she saw him at the entrance and she was hurt beyong words not because he was at a rock concert but because he lied to her.She ran and ran and Buo Wen chased after her. When they were standing at opposite streets, he apologised profusely and said he didn't want to lose her and he proposed, by signing. For a moment too long, she thought about it and tearfully she ran across the street and hugged him tightly. HEr parenst was sceptical about Buo Wen but he seemed sincere but it was BuoW en's parents that objected. His father was ok with the marriage but his mother wasn't. She went to see her secretly and begged her to leave her son and she tearfully agreed, as she was contented that she ahd met and fell for Buo Wen and had his love even for teh shortest momnet. So for one day she spent some wonderful times with Buo Wena nd even spent one night with him, and the next morning she told him about the break and Buo Wen who has never screamed, not even when he was signing, as he was very patient with her lost his cool this time. He signed angrily that ;

"I fell for you and so I want to give you happiness. I am not playing around when I proposed, and I want us to have a future together. But we haven't even started yet and you have doubts about our future, you do not want to take the chance at happiness. I do not want a wife like you!"; and he walked away. MRT thought for the longest time and as she looked at him walking away angrily, she ran to him and grabbed his hands and signed tearfully;

" I want to give you happiness. I want us to have a future together...", and for a momnet she thought he was still angry but then he smiled and signed playfully, "I guess my signing skills are getting better" and they hugged amd married secretly.

Later on, Buo Wen's mother appeared at their new marital home and to their surprise she signed to MRT and gave her a wedding dress. They had a wedding ceremony and life was bliisfully perfect, until MRT discovered she was pregnant. She had doubts, she feared that the child may not be normal, she feared that she may not be a good mother, she felt that her child may not be able to accept her and deny her as a mother....and so she decided for herself that she would have an abortion. Buo Wen didn't know unitil Nai Bao Tzi told him and he went to her and though he tried to reason with her, she has already made up her mind. He was disappointed, as her parents felt that she should ecided for her herself. But though eh didn't want children yet, he wanted this one and signed to her and reasoned with her that..

"This is a very important decision to make. We are married..why is it that you always feel you're to take everything onto your shoulders and decide for yourself when it affects the both of us? What about my opinion?"

And she thought for the longest time and decided that she would keep the child. Buta s months go by she became restless. She felt self pity when she saw expecting mothesr talking to their unborn child and she couldn't. She wasn't smiling anymore and Buo Wen noticed that. He took her? to the beach and made such a fool of himself that she laughed and finnaly was happy again. That night she accepted the fact that she may or may not be a good mother but the child will be very fortunate indeed to have a great father in her loving husband. When the time finally came for the child to be born, she panicked as she couldn't hear the intructions of the doctor and nurses but luckilly Buo Wen who had left an important meeting ran to her and held her had. They had a baby daughter whom they named Qian Her. But problems kept occuring where there was one time when the building's fire alarm went off, and luckilly Mama Buo Wenw as there and took the baby and patted MRT's shoulder to run, if not she wouldn't know, and at the mom's suggestion she said yes to move in with the in laws, but Buo Wen was the one who said no.

"She has already suffered from low self esteem, to live with you would destroy her confidence. let her be a mother to her child", and reluctantly mama Buo Wen agreed.

Part 2 : 3 year old Qian Her, a problem in the making
Qian Her was 3 years old and a very precocious child. She loved to talk to her mother buts he could not undertsand why she ahd to pat on her mother's legs or pull her skirt to get her attention, or that he mother never read to her bedtime stories. Buo Wen tried to teach her sign language and only managed to teach her the sign language for "RAIN" when the child lost interest. He tried to force her but MRT begged him not to and let her be. Times passed, and Qian Her was beginning to realise that her parents talked with their hands at dinner time and her mother was exceptionally quiet. There was one time she wanted her mother to read her a story and MRT tried but her pronunciations were not clear and Qian Her dimissed her mother and sat at the corner and read the book herself, leaving MRT hurt and even more fearful of her being a bad and inadequate mother. However life always find a way to get better that it already was. During one time it was raning. MRT was busy cooking and so she could not see the dresses hung outside to dry were wet. Qian Her quickly ran to her mother, pulled her skirt and guided her mama to the sliding door and to the amazement of MRT, she signed "Rain" again and again. MRT was dumbfounded and quickly pulled her daughetr into her arms and hugged her tightly. Buo wen came home just in time to see the touching picture and he too hugged his wife and child. And from thereon they need not force Qian Her to learn sign language and finally MRT coulc tell her daughter how much she loved her.

But life was not bliss.Qian Her was really sick when she was four, and MRT panicked. She tried to call the hospital but she could not say a word, and she quickly ran to the neighbours and banged on their doors for help and luckilly one responded. They went to the hospital just in time but MRT went home and cried the whole night. Buo Wen went home and told hert to go to the hospital as Qian Her was calling her name. She quickly went back only to be slapped by her own mother for being so irresponsible and leaving her child alone in the hospital and MRT quickly ran to the bed and held Qian Her's hand. Though she could not speak Qian Her was happy that mama was there to hold her hand. After she recuperated, Buo Wen took her to the zoo and they had a fun time, but again a problem came up. Qian Her saw other kids whispering into their mother's ears, whicpering secrets and she did the same to her mama but MRT could not hear her and Qian Her was utterly disappointed and MRT hurt. Buo Wen took Qian Her to the side and tried to please her and suddenly he had an idea. He signed to MRT his idea, and then told his daughter to look at her mama. Her mama signed to her a comment about how a boy that had previously whispered a secret to his mother and laughing at MRT who was signing and he was looking at them right then and she signed how he looked like that monkey and Qian Her signed back and said yes and laughed and the boyw as so upset that he went away. Buo wen then told his beloved child that she need not whiper secrets top her mama and still they could share secrets like how they did just now. Qian Her quickly ran to her mama and hugged her Mama and MRT was laughing again.

Part 3 : 7 year old Qian Her, MRT's worst fear came true.
Life went on and eevrything was alright until Buo Wen had a prospect of promotion but he thought for the longest of time and decided to go alone to a far off place in Japan for a few years leaving MRT and Qian Her. He decided this way for the best for MRT because he didn't want her to go to a new environment and start all over again. MRT found out about this and talked to him, and reasoned with him the same way he reasoned with her when she wanted an abortion. he rtied to explain why but she cut him off and signed;

"You once told me not to make decisions for my ownself as we are a family, but you're doing exactly that right now. We are a family and whereveer you go Qian Her and I will go with you." And he reluctantly said yes.

At the new place, it was an idillyic smaller town. All was fine but what they didn't know was that Qian Her wasn't. Her new classmates were so insensitive and always bullie dher and pestered her with questions about hert "strange" mother and sai hurtful things to her. As her wlf confidence went lower, hear head looking down at the floor every day her love for her mother became shame. She didn't even want her mama to be present for her essay reading session at school and Buo Wen repeatedly asked her why and finally she said she did not want her classmates to see her mama. She? was ashamed of something that MRT had no control of. Buo Wen almost scolded Qian Her but MRT stopped her and quietly begged him to go to the school with Qian Her and she would stay at home. And MRT's heart was broken into millions of pieces at her daughter's rejection of her and her worst fear finally became true. She felt even more useless and the gap between her child and her growing further and further apart. Buo Wen did not know what to do and went home to his in laws and drank himself silly. He felt useless as a father as he could not protect his child and felt that only Qian Her can pull herself out of this problem. But MRT's parents assured him that Qian Her will be alright as MRT was her mother. Only then did Buo Wen realised how little he knew his wife.He found out that she was a top student and was teased all her life but she grew up fine. And Buo Wen asked Nai Bao Tzi to tell him everything about MRT and he klaughed with joy at the stories and was teary eyed when he heard of what she had to go through. At school the problem worsened, and Qian Her who dared not speak up remembered how her mother had tried to teach her how to catch a ball thrown at her and she repeated ran away from catching it untils eh did and her mother hugged her and was very proud of her. She realised she had to stand up for herself and she attacked the young boy who was teasing her until the teacher stopped them. Later the teacher apologised for not seeing this problem at the beginning and she explained to the class about Qian Her's plight. Some students stood up and stood by Qian Her and all thsoe who had bullied her walked right up to her and apologised and they became friends. And finally Qian Her wanted her mama to see her at school and MRT went along with Buo Wen but she was sceptical, and ashamed of her lack of perfection. But when it was Qian Her's time to read her essay, she wrote about her mother and bravely she signed and read her essay and told the class about how great her mother was, that she was a perfect mother and she now realised why her papa loved her mama so much adn she too loved her mama. the whole class was in tears and clapped and finally, at that moment MRT's fear disappeared and finally gained acceptance in her daughter's heart and she looked proudly at her daughter,a nd Buo Wen looked proudly at both his wife and child.

The Peformaces :
By the two leads, Shinji and Miho, they were flawless. Could they be so perfect ? Yes will be my answer. Perhaps I am biased but I shall explain myself...

Shinji Takeda as Buo Wen
At first I thought that he looked too boyish to be someone who will age up to 7 years in this series and I thought his non-facial expression was absolutely lacking in some scenes. But by the 2nd episode, I began to appreciate his way of expressing his Buo Wen's frustration, anger and joy. Buo Wen is a very calm and cool man. Rarely does he shoud which is why MRT fell for him, because he deosn't shout with his hands, he has the patience to learn a foregn language just to communicate with her and he made the extra effort to be such a loving and giving husband. Everytime there is a problem, MRT's first reaction is to hide, and feel self pity. But not Buo Wen who will always encourage to come out from hiding. And when she doesn't listen, he simply let her be and will reason with her slowly until she accept his reason which will be often correct. when his mother insisted that they live together after the harrowing alarm incident, he was the first to say no though she said yes. He wanted to give her the confidence and if there is such a term as perfect husband, Buo Wen is the personification of perfection of a man and of a husband and as a father. His anger and sadness at not being able to help guide his daughter in her times of unhappiness by bullie in school shows to us what a responsible and loving father this man is. At least he felt anger but did not thing rash because he is a level headed and reasonable man. there are times I feel that our MRT does not deserve such a good man as this. And verey rarely do we see Japanese man as the SNAG....Sensitive New Age Guy who even wash the dishes and change diapers. And Shinji Takeda makes his Buo Wen simply irresistable not through sex appeal nor looks appeal though he has both, and plenty of it, he makes Buo Wen irresistably unforgettable by simply making Buo Wen human and a man, but in Buo Wen 's standard, a better man. I wish I could find such a dying breed of a husband, but i do realise they're often fictional. Shinji made him a gentleman. How very often do we see that on TV these days? And understanding, compassionate, patient, loving...I do wonder, where can we find such a perfect husband? An excellent performance by this well known actor in the Japanese cinema and music scene. I want I want I wanttttttttttt.....

Miho Kanno as MRT
My first impression of Miho Kanno in this series, with her long china doll hairstyle, fair perfect skin, pinkish lips, big round eyes, and a cute smile was "what a pure innocent looking girl". the more I see her face the more I liked it and it is very rare indeed to find such a sweet looking girl on TV these days, and much harder to find such a young actress(she is 24 this year of 2001) who could grasp such a complex role so well, that we could feel her pain her joy her desperation and her need for her daughter's acceptance, and all in 6 episodes!! A bit too short if I may add but perfectly well done. She does not speak a word in this series unless you count mumbling some lines due to her inability to talk due to her deafness as lines but she uses her hands to talk about her feelings. Though some viewers may find it frustrating if you can't read the Japanese/Chinese subtitle and unlike Moonlight there are no narration unless it is a very important scene, you will find youself still able to somehow follow what she is signing by her eyes. Very very expressive. And one amazing this is that she starts as a fresh faced girl and by 6th episode, she looks a bit matured due to a change in hairstyle and clothings. You could really see her grow older as the years go by (well supposedly so) in this series. She is the best Japanese actress I have seen thus far based on her performance alone and simply an joy to watch. You know why Buo Wen falls in love with her MRT but there are times you would want ti slap her for hert self pity moment, until she neglects her own sick child in hospital. I just love that scene and many others. Take my word....she is the best.

The Others
Those who plays mama and papa, and especially 3 year old Qian Her are so good in here. I have never seen a child who could act so well, and 3 year old Qiin Her displays such emotion, that you could hardly believe that she could not be more than 4 would be my guess. Who says Japanese children are automatons? Anyway, she was so good especially her eyes of guilt that everytime her parenst are signing on the dinner table and she doesn't and refuses to understand the language. And everybody else are also very very good. Top notch performance by all.

So what is your recommendation:?
Unlike With Love that has a great song overshadowing the storyline(not that they have any at all), this series has no song but soem background music that isn't too inrtusive like that Shining Through series where they blast the song each time a character appears. No such thing. often silence and just those hands that do the talking. If you really want to watch a good Japanese series, or simply a good series, you can read Chinese or understand sign language or can read Japanese, this is one series that you must have in your VCD collection. Moreover the bonus point is that it is only 6 episodes long and it tells of so much. You'll be a fan of Shinji Takeda, as a woman you'll want to marry his Buo Wen, as a man you should try to emulate Buo Wen, and you'll love Miho Kanno and you'll reach for your tissues once in a while to wipe away that stubborn tears that soemhow got stuck in your eyes. If there is one series that I have ever thought to be almost perfect (well nothing is perfect!), if there is any series that TVB should copy, this would be it. IF you're tired of all those Japanese love story or long series all about love and revenge, why not try this short series that is all about life and ones own place in this big big world? GET THIS ONE!

The Most Amazing Aspect Of This Series :

again the peformances. I really thought that Miho Kanno is deaf and mute because she is just so convincing with her hands in signing and her eyes. And I really though that guy knows sign language but i think they were given ample time to learn and to act convincingly. Amazing. By the way Miho Kanno has albums you know so she is definately not deaf and mute. Amazing!

Any Interesting Stuff :

See the poster below? that is the cover of a manga series (Japanese comic series) with the same name of this series, and the same wirter JUNKO KARUBE. Coincidence? Nope because this series is originally from a manga series! Wierd I know because in other places for comic series we eithr have comedy ot cartoons or kung fu series but only in Japan can you find comic series on a wild but kindhearted teacher, basketball players, and family drama such as above.

Yes. Shinji was discovered many years ago in a talent contest, he sings and plays saxaphone for a living too with concerts around the country and mainly acts in Japanese movies in some really diverse characters. He is one character actor and you can't blame Seagull for not knowing him. And he is very young, 29 this year I think. And very thin and smokes. Who doesn't in Japan? But hey no stigma unlike USA.

Miho kanno is very young has starred in numerous TV commercials, with albums of her own, has quite a number of fans and disappointingly the first Internet picture I saw was her nude pictures. And when Is ay nude, I mean NUDE! Totally destory my feelings about her.BNut she is one excellnet actress. And nope she ain't deaf or mute.No that I know of.

I was told there is a famous and respected old Japanese actor in this series but I do not know who.

And guess what? My glowing review has a back up in facts and figures because though i have alwasy said winning awards doesn't make a series good but for this one deservedly so. And one wierd stuff......this series was shown in TV in three parts, each part 2 episodes and eahc part a different stage of their story like THE STORY above and amazingly eahc shown at least 6 months apart. oen even a year apart! I am not sure if they filmed it that way and so this will explain the actors looking older as each episodes go by or they filmed it all and then release it that way. Whatever it may be, read the below paragraphs taken from SHINJI's ROOM and decide for yourself should you buy this VCD. Not watch but BUY!

Silly Observation:

I have seen a few Japanese series.? And always a housewife will wear a white apron of the same design and cook, all the time. Same white apron! How so? Only one manufacturer?

And the ideal Japanese familyand ideal even by world standard would be mom stays at home, papa works for money and mama takes care of social work and children's affair.

In this series, you'll see in offices even superviros have no office of their own. TRUE! You may be a manager but ha ha you'll still work like all other common workers and subordinate, open office concept.

I was told in Japan there is no laws governing maternity leave and so married women who just had a child will not have maternity paid leave and will be forced to take leave or even forced to leave the job. UNFAIR! In Malaysia at least we have 2 months paid leave! And in some European countries soem even could take up to 5 years unpaid leave and you can still have back your job! And in England fathers too can take maternity leave as a step to encourage closer family ties. What is Japan doing? I hope hy this time this review is posted, thinsg have change or is already changed.

WITH LOVE [Jap]

Written by Seagull

This review was posted many years ago, exactly when I am not sure but it should be within months from the original broadcast of this series. I am posting it as I have posted it originally.

SPOILERS ... SPOILERS ... SPOILERS

Serial Type:? Online love

Plot: This story is about Hasegawa Takashi(Takenouchi Yutaka) and Murakami Amane(Tanaka Misato) meeting each other upteem times in person but have no idea that they are email pals. A love story based on their relationship by e-mail and in real life. Will they ever know each other's true identity??

Please visit Shuji's Dramaland for detailed synopsis

Comments/Afterthoughts: B-O-R-I-N-G. Most of the serials I rated "C"s are the boring types. "B"s are the averages and "A"s are the classics. I am very disappointed with "With Love" because I like Yutaka and is dying for his new serial. Besides poor story, the female lead is gross too. I think they chose the wrong female lead. That woman looks more like an auntie to me. And frankly, the 2 leads have poor chemistry. It's like even they themselves are not convinced that they are in love with one another. Like many other reviewers have said, the only thing good about the serial is the music.

Fav Scene: None that I recall of.

Fav Character: None, though I like Yutaka, I don't really like his hairdo in this show. A bit too rugged and long.

Hate Factor: That female lead. Obasan?!

Worth Buying/Watching? Not really even if u are a Yutaka fan. The love story is nothing much and I should say the cast is worse. Try other serials first.

Interesting Point: I really wonder if people can fall in love by exchanging such short emails once in a while. Not really convincing enough to me. That's also probably why the serial failed. But I do agree on point, we can "talk" more when we don't know and don't have to face that person. It happens to me too. I find it easier to "talk" online. Of course, no cyber love for me =p

WITH LOVE [Jap]

This review was posted many years ago, exactly when I am not sure but it should be within months from the original broadcast of this series. I am posting it as I have posted it originally.

SPOILERS ... SPOILERS ... SPOILERS

Length : Surpassingly too long for such few tapes of (if I am not mistaken) 12 episodes but do refer to Seagull's review for more accurate info on the duration.

Plot:
No plot at all. But let's just assume that the poor excuse of a plot in this series is a plot....By the way, I can't remember the names of the actors, but I am sure you do know that the guy I am talking about is Yutaka, whose name I shall use and the rest I shall use the words..."heroine", the "other guy". Basically, that's about the cast in this series. Plus 2 high speed modems and 2 really big computers.Norika Fujiwara does not count.

This is a love story between two lonely souls who found each other in the Internet and became intimate friends, sharing deep emotional pain and secrets about one another, under false identities with false backgrounds. In real life, Yutaka is a struggling musician that has immense talent whilst our heroine is a bank clerk that has low self esteem and wouldn't mind being walked all over. they met as they worked in the same building but the first encounter did not go so well. Yutaka may be good looking and super cool, but in the girl's eyes he is arrogant. To that gut the girl seemed too quiet and too docile. Though Yutaka in his personal life has an occasional bed mate in the form of Norika, a famous and beautiful DJ, he does not love her. you see he once loved this woman when he was in a rock band but one day, with just a note saying "So Long", she left. And he never saw her since. And he didn't understand why she just left. Whilst our heroine was once in love with a man but was hurt for reasons I genuinely can't remember. So she became even more recluse and at work, she had no respect by her boss. But as they met each other everyday, surprisingly they became friends, often seeing each other and greeting each other, whilst on the Net, they became "lovers" and they began to fall in love with the unseen person at the opposite end. In real life, Norika tried her damnedest to get his love but to no avail. he can't let go of his past love, and when he could, after seeing her again but this time a happily married woman with two kids, he fell for this unseen woman. Whilst our heroine was pursued by this successful executive that had the genuine intention of wooing her for marriage but with all the wrong moves. But she loved only that unseen guy. After many missed encounters, on the day of the girl's engagement our hero played the song which was the real reason how they met on the internet and she knew it was HIM. She ran after him but he denied all knowledge of the internet meeting and went on with his life, until he realize at last he loved her and ran after her and well, kinda confessed his love for her. And they began their relationship miles apart by exchanging e-mails.

Why,What,Where,When,How...:

What brought them together on the Net?
He sent a song to someone via e-mail but got the wrong address, and it was sent to her instead. She loved the song so much she wrote a letter to that guy saying "Who are you?". He deleted that letter. Much later she wrote again apologizing for being so rude and writing to him. And this time he wrote back and that was the start of it all.

What was the lie about backgrounds?
He said he was an aspiring musician now a music teacher in a primary school in Tokyo. She said she is in Paris, he dream destination.

What made that other guy fall for her?
She ain't pretty but that other guy liked her very much because she was the only one that insisted on paying the bill when they had dinner with some other girls. And he liked her quiet nature, and that she will make a good wife.

What made her not like this other guy?
On the first date, he mentioned hotel. On the second date, again hotel. Every time we see this guy, he was like a sex starved maniac, but he was actually much more than that. She didn't like his strong way of approaching the relationship and I can't blame her. He looked like a jerk to me at first.

What made her say yes to his proposal?
She once almost met our hero but she was late because of work that she could've said no to but being the timid her, she couldn't. Later her friend gave her an advise, that it is better to have something real, rather than the internet guy who is just a dream that may not be genuine. moreover, this other guy is very educated, has lots of money that can give her security, and her lifelong dream..to live in Paris. So she said yes.

What then made her ran out of the engagement party?
Our hero came and without really knowing she is that woman on the net(though he suspected it because the way she said certain things), he played the song that made them meet. It was then she knew, and ran after him, and told him of her identity and his response was a laugh and a few discouraging words and he walked off.

What did she do wrong then?
Nothing actually. He didn't want to spoil things for her because the other guy may be a jerk at first, then really creepy and now a perfect gentleman, could provide her for everything in life that he couldn't. Moreover he can't forget about his old love.

Then why did he changed his mind?
Simple. He saw his old girlfriend again, now a married woman with 2 kids. And she told him why she left. they may have been in love, they may have been passionate about each other, but after a while, he wasn't listening to her anymore. There was no communication and the woman left because of this lack of communication. It was then that he realised his problem and he also realised, in a way he could open up to our heroine, like our heroine could open up to him. And that was where later on her flew to Paris for work but actually he was there to see her, but there was no one to see.

Where was she?
Why did I say the jerk-creep was a gentleman? He took her to Paris, and she even wanted to spend a night with her, and she began to unbutton her blouse which was something he wanted all along. but he stood up, walked right up to her and buttoned her blouse. He even gave her a plane ticket back to Tokyo, because he finally realised she does not love him.And loving her much more, he would want her to be truly happy, and the best way to be truly happy is to be with the person she truly loves.

So what was the ending?
They met, exchanged many words and he had to leave to Paris for work, and so they exchanged mails everyday. The End.
?

Comments:
This is the worst Japanese series I have ever seen. But I tortured myself all for Yutaka who was super sulky and yet super cool and thus super sexy. They found the right look for the girl, plain and not that outstanding because frankly if she is THAT beautiful then her social life would have been much more than in the series. But they found the wrong actress. The failure of this series is 3 fold. Mainly the length of the series. I know, TVB has 100 episodes and nobody is complaining more so a mere 12-15 episodes which is considered long for Japanese standard. But consider this, a story about two lost soul that could've just met but time and time again they never did, and they drag nd drag and drag, for me that's very long and a torture. And thus that is the second problem. the storyline. not compelling at all. not much thing is happening. japanese series is always very straightforward in its plot, they focus on one particular couple/scenario and that is why 6 episodes could make a great series. That is how you really get to know the characters and feel for them. But in this series, too much focus which makes it ultimately boring. Especially the ending scene where I though the perfect ending would've been them hugging and exchanging a loving kiss, no words spoken because they have said it all in the e-mails. But thatw as not what happened. Having dragged the story for so long with so little to talk about, that almost final scene had them on the roof, talking and exchanging whatever they said in their e-mails to each other. So frankly if you have misssed the first few correspondence, have no fear because you get a recap for a whole of 15 minutes or so. And that got to my nerve. And when they did finish reminiscing old mails, they hugged. And that's about it. Which comes to the third problem. Yutaka is a wonderfully cool and good actor. His eyes speak volumes, loneliness and pain. But our heroine could not act. She made her character into a pity little thing but to me, her character is not pitiful but lonely. She could not project that weakness. She looked very strong to me. Not being beautiful is not my main concern because she has? the looks for the character but she simply can't act. She spoilt the whole series and don't get me started on the chemistry factor between the two leads. Our Yutaka, you could see him oozing all his longing for this girl in his usual cool aloof manner, but she oozed nothing in return. They are not compatible and I am sure there are many Japanese actresses that are not too pretty but could act better. I was not suprised why this series was a bomb.?

Is this better than....
TVB's Web Of Love? I haven't watch that one but I doubt TVB's version of iNternet love is good. Maybe Tom Hank's You've Got Mail? Frankly the western one is much much better. But personally I like the original version of Tom Hank's new version, starring Jimmy Stewart in the movies called " The Shop Around The Conner". It's about the same thing but the only difference is there wasn't any e-mails then so it was snail mail. Watch this one. You'll love it.

So what is your recommendation:?
Buy the soundtrack. I love the ending song. And I think it was by a group called My Little Lover, or something like that. And if only the ending was like in the ending song. Japanese series has this weird ending scenes, that aren't about the next scene you'll see, aren't scenes from the series accompanied by the song but are scenes that may have connection to the whole series in spirit but is totally independant and totally not in the series itself! Funny! But I love the song. Buy it. If you're a Yutaka fan, watch this one unless you hate his overly long hair and skinny appearance. I thought he looked cool. Other from that reason, avoid this one like a plague. Boring boring boring. If I were to adopt Seagull's rating system, I'd give it an F for FAIL. A very tired looking series.

Any Interesting Stuff :

Norika Fujiwara is very big in HK but is she that big in Japan? And is she that beautiful? I agree her body is perfect but to me, she is plain if not for that body. As for her? acting, I guess she will do. I? saw China Strike Force which was good?? until I saw Jackie Chan's Accidental Hero which made me realise why Jackie is Jackie.

That other guy in real life is a rock singer who could play a guitar. He could act, that's for sure.

This role was tailor made for Yutaka, mainly because of his two great features. Hie eyes, the way he would stare at a person, which I totally agree for choosing Yutaka and his VOICE. It seems that he has this deep rich voice. That I do not know because I watched the mandarin version. But I did hear his two words, "This is ..." in English and believe me when I say MY Sorimachi's voice is no where as deep as his.?

By the way, Yutaka is a mommy's boy. When he was at the worst in his career, going nowhere and living alone, when he couldn't even afford a ciggarette, he would call home and would go home to his parents and let them mother him. Cute! He looks like Louis and even has the same closeness with his family as Louis with slight difference. Louis once said that he is still living with his family because whenever he worked late or away from home and he would missed their quarrels so much that he would call home and when he heard thsi parents quarreling, he would cry and missed not being at home with them.

Silly Observation:

I have seen a few Japanese series. Other than MY Sorimachi, who has? a beautiful voice and tends to be very expressive in his acting, the other Japanese guys are so robotic. i mean they stand up too straight, even when they're running they reminded me of that mercury guy in Terminator 2, always straight, they never shout, always talk in deep tone of a voice, sometime quite expressionless and consistently too darn thin! I think that's quite silly for an observation but are all Japanese actors like 50kg below? But yet they looked strong unlike the HK artists that looked like theyr;'e gonna fanit. And just 40 years ago we laugh at the Japanese for being short, really short and has that kind of a carrot top for a hairstyle, and too fair so a bit sissy. Look at them now. All almost 6 feet tall, still thin but tanned thin, and they're the trendsetters in fashion! How much has changed since then. And 10 out of 10 actors would have at least one scene with a cigarette or one picture with them smoking.

And do notice how that girl talk and walk in this series. Even when she was holding the cup whilst brushing her teeth, she had to put the toothbrush down because she has to use both hands to hold one cup! And the way she sit, so darn straight, and legs never 1mm apart. I find that pretentious, at least in that actress' performance. I am sure in real life also they're like that. They whisper, they never laugh out loud, so there aren't any spontaneity in them. But can't blame them because that was how they were brought up. But from all my silly observations, my silly conclusion would be that Japanese, they're mild mannered, polite, extremely soft spoken, very apologetic and very disciplined. WIth great posture, beautiful skin and lots of hair, on top of his head of course! BUT till now they never ever say sorry for WWII.Pity.I almost like them. But I must admit, they make great series, and good songs. But not this one reviewed.

Song 1

How Long :???? Amazingly,12 episodes.

It's About?? :??
Gui Jung Ying Zhi,or Sensei Onizuka and his quests in reforming his students, teachers, schools and losing his virginity to someone that he loves.

Remember? :?
This is a Japanese serial, comedy but with some drama in each episode. One story per episode and absolutely right to the point.Almost wished it is longer.

Verdict :?
Before I venture any further to tell you the whole story and nothing but the story,I would like to put this first. This is the first Japanese serial that I have ever really watched and frankly, after seeing this one,I regretted not watching MY Sorimachi in Beach Boys.Anyway, this is a very refreshing serial, very funny and extremely heartwarming.I watched the Mandarin version, which is actually exactly the same as the original version.Should I say this?I think I should.Watching this serial,I feel kinda sad for ATV/TVB/Taiwanese serials/HVD/TCS.Why?Because this serial managed to tell us what ATE took a 100 episodes to tell, life, challenges, bad greedy people, ungrateful souls, sacrifice and a few lessons along the way.EXCELLENT.

The Plot :??
A very simple plot, based on a very successful and highly rated manga series,by the same name.Ex-biker gang leader,Onizuka wants to be a teacher all his life and he realised that dream of his.So very optimistic and daring to just do whatever he feels is the right thing instead of following procedures and protocols, all the teachers disliked him except for 3,the Lady Chairman,Tung Yuet(the pretty English teacher) and the literature teacher. With students, teachers and the high officials conspiring to get rid of him under the pretext of him being a bad influence,at last he won the hearts of his students and the respect of his teachers with his very unorthodox ways of teaching. And also,he gained not just all that,he got Tung Yuet and at last, gave his virginity to the woman he loved with a condom that kept for many years.

So What About The Others?Just Ke-Le-Fe? :??
All the other characters played a very important part in telling us how hypocritical and stubborn they could be compared to our Onizuka.Though he may be porn loving, cigarette smoking and gangster looking teacher, whom I really doubt could really teach a good decent subject, but compared with all the other teachers, even Tung Yuet,he deserved his title,GTO because he has one thing that none of the other has;he truely and genuinely cares for the welfare of his students and though he may have used unorthodox and sometimes shocking ways to help and get his message across, nevertheless he has a heart of gold and with the noblest of intentions, how can we not love this very flawed man.

Anyway,in this serial, you'll meet some very stubborn students like the troubled Xiao Ya,Chun Zhi,a very arrogant but extremely smart computer wizard( I can't remember his name),the innocent Peng Zhi,the very emotionaly scarred Nanazhi. Also you'll meet a very scary Mathematics teacher, the very doubtful Tung Yuet, the very low self esteem literature teacher, the very mean old assistant headmaster, the kindly old lady chairman, the very malicious and greedy assistant to the assistant headmaster,PE teacher and also a very bitchy Home Science teacher. They'll all in the span of 12 episodes tried to get rid of our hero, and when you think the trouble with Xiao Ya is over, there comes the biggest problem,a rich and powerful politician taking over the school and sacking everybody. How then can our hero save the day with his philosophy of life, and never his fists?

The Most Hated Character? :?
All the teachers other than Tung Yuet, the literature teacher and our Onizuka.I laughed when they were sacked because they were so mean to the students(calling them useless and scums) and also towards the good and popular teacher, Onizuka. Because of their own unwillingness to unite and instead spent their days plotting to get rid of everybody else, they brought about the biggest problem to their school. But they redeem themselves at last, which is my most favourite scene.?

Xiao Ya who blamed the teachers and adults for causing the death of her beloved Ah Mon.She tried many ways to get rid of Onizuka but at last she realised he is one adult she could trust with her life, literally. And also because of the way she treated Peng Zhi,I really didn't like her at first.

That boy who looked like Ah Mon for trying to rape Xiao Ya but she was saved by Onizuka, and then when he lost in a hand to hand fight,he stabbed our hero, made false report that Onizuka was a violent teacher, etc. But he reedemed himself at the end.

The Most Pitiful Character :??
Onizuka.Poor man. He's just trying to be a good teacher and everyday there will be complaints against him and plots to get rid of him.And during one time,he had to resit his high school exams and forced to score 400 points and above (this is actually a plot to have him resign by the teachers) because frankly,he came from a third grade University and he took 7 years to complete that degree. But he did not it and then he got hurt.

The Most Saddest Character :??????
Xiao Ya.She really does loved that Ah Mon,so much that it is almost painful and her prince charming,Chun Zhi has always been waiting for a chance. When all her friends left her, even Peng Zhi,loneliness set in.Sad girl, for having so much hate in such a young mind.

The Most Kindest Character :??
Peng Zhi.Even when Xiao Ya treated her like she's really that stupid, she still nonetheless genuinely cares for Xiao Ya,her best friend since they were little children. And the happiest thing is,this girl is supposed to be on the way up in her attempt to be a young pop idol, thanks to the encouragement of Onizuka.

My Most Favourite Characters :?
Basically four.Tung Yuet for obvious reasons,Onizuka for much more obvious reasons, the old literature teacher because even if nobody listens to him,he dared to speak up even when Tung Yuet would not dare to.And of course, that student computer wiz.He is so cool.I just love it when he just stood up and left when that Xiao Ya's mom was giving her speech about the evil Onizuka.

The Best Scenes :??
Would it be too much if I say, every scene is the best scene? If I must choose one,I will state more than one.All the scenes that have Onizuka delivering his thoughts about how one should take action in their lives, all those fighting scenes ,the going back to school scene for Onizuka and also, the ending tape, where for once, all the teachers and students unite to save the school from demolition and frankly,I was so touched by that one scene.Truely a classic. And the funniest thing is,when Onizuka walked into the school with his students and practically kidnapped the school, everybody though he was crazy and that he must have been mistreating the students. The thing is,he didn't care one bit about the outside media. All he wanted was to prepare the school for their yearly funfair and for everybody to have a good time.Again,I would vote the ending as my most favourite scene,if I must vote for one.
And another vote from me,the scene where Tung Yuet came rushing to the school and our hero is at the opposite of the fence and she asked him how does he really feels about her and he just took out the condom that he has saved for all these years for the woman he loved and he gave it to her.How romantic...

The Worst Scene? :? None? .I have never said this before for all the reviews I have written and actually meant it.The beauty of this serial is it is so short and so compact, that there is no time to talk nonsense so basically, there would be no worst scenes because every scene has its purpose and message.

Most Favourite Pair :??
For this serial, definitely our hero and heroine, Onizuka and also Tung Yuet. Both so tall.

Best Performances :
Without a doubt, EVERYBODY.I must admit, whether bad guys, good guys, they can all act and act very well.Especially Nanako who plays Tung Yuet, very sweet though she may be a bit too much sometimes,in her bickerings with Onizuka.
And frankly,Onizuka's Sorimachi was quiite ok at first,I though he couldn't really act but when the scenes demand that he cries a little,I get emotional when he gets emotional. So I guess, great acting then. The thing is,this guy is way beyond cool,he is the epitome of manliness and he shall be my first (and only) male idol from Japan. And yet his character is flawed in every sense. He smokes in almost every scene,he oggles at big breasted women, together with his police pal, they watches porno tapes and even collects them,he acts ,talks and dresses like a gangster. You would not have? liked his character if not for his actions towards his students and his fellow colleagues. So I grew to feel some sort of an affection for this character, and in the end,I just wished, two more episodes please.I love this man.

Worst Peformances :
?Frankly, none that I could think of.?

Is it worth Renting :?
No.It's worthed buying and keeping for annual broadcast for your own private veiwing.Absolutely G.S.C.... Great Serial Collectibles.

Interesting Facts :?
Like I said above, based on popular manga series. But the cartoon does not look a bit like Sorimachi's Onizuka.I mean blonde hair and jeans wearing 22 year old school drop out.And the manga tell us more why he wants to be a teacher whilst this serial,it's starts off with him wanting to be a teacher but never telling us why.

This serial was such a hit, need I say more.It even beat another Takeshi, that is Takeshi Kaneishiro's serial,God,Please Give Me More Time (something like that) and got the 1st spot.Frankly,I am still cursing myself for missing Beach Boys, and again from what i have read, his character in that serial is a real no good SOB who lives on women's money and yet,we will still like him.Sorimachi is nothing like that Shazna group.Really, like HK people like to say, very Man.

He sung the title song and sorry Seagull,I really do think he is one of the few Japanese singers that can really carry a decent tune. And I like the song,I mean I don't understand a single word he is singing except for those translated into chinese words,so just hum a little and then sing.... da..da.da..da..da..da..da..da.. .poison.Love that song.

Interesting Observation :??
Do you think such a GTO exists? In all my personal schooling life, except for my University days,I have yet to meet a Good Teacher, more so Great Teacher.I mean strictly speaking,Onizuka would be a very bad example with his behaviour, and I doubt he can teach .But the thing is,any decently well trained teacher could teach but can they TEACH and reach out to their students when they're in trouble?I have yet to meet one.Sad I know.Maybe you have.I never liked my school teachers, very emotionally abusive and very insulting to us,and I was from an all girls school! I remember one incident when I was 15 or 17(I can't remember),we were all standing in the school assembly hall and we were supposed to be going to the opposite all boys school for sports day and the first thing that the discipline teacher said was for us not to flirt with the boys over there.I felt so insulted, and so were many of my friends.Yes,there were some who really flirted with the boys but frankly, where is the harm?If not how do we ever get to know any guys? That is why I have little respect for my teachers, who is more fond of using chalkes to draw on my face and pinching me until I cried and saying insensitive words.Sure,I've met good teachers, nice teachers, especially University years but none a great teacher like what is depicted in this serial. If there was one,I would either continue to stay in school and refused to leave or become a teacher myself. So far none gave me so much inspiration that I would want to be oneFrankly, when i left school I felt sad,not because I am leaving my beloved teachers, but because i really did love my school's compounds, assembly halls,a classroom with 4 fans, that Virgin mary statute that they took down some years back, those faded cross signs on yet to be repainted walls. It's the strcuture and the history that I missed, and I can't even remember a single name of my teachers.Sad.Hopefully,you could remember one, fondly.

Unimportant Stuff :?
Onizuka (in chinese words) has two chinese characters,if combined as one would mean a chinese character,SOUL,which? our hero has plenty of.

Plot
Taken from Dramawiki

Toru is a young part-timer who has no interest in social issues. He gets called in as a juror in the trial of a woman labeled as a "witch", charged with a murder over an enormous inheritance. Though it appears that she is definitely guilty, one by one the jurors begin casting their votes for "not guilty." From the shadows, there is a mysterious organization buying control of the jury. At the same time, strange events start happening around Toru. When another juror is threatened, Toru is determined to save her. However, Toru's girlfriend, a newspaper reporter, seems suspicious of their relationship. And so, Toru begins his lonely fight for the truth.

Trivia
Also taken from Dramawiki

This is the first drama to tackle the issue of Japan's new "saiban-in" (lay judge) system. The series started about a month before the actual jury system went into effect.

The importance of this trivia is because I really have no idea what's the system and how it works. Basically there are 9 judges in a trial, 3 of whom are legally trained and career judges and 6 of whom are so called lay judges, meaning picked from the pool of names that I suppose are the electorates rolls. Additional 2 lay judges are picked who will not participate nor voice opinion in the discussions and eventual verdict and are back ups, in case any of the 6 lay judges may be dismissed, sick, etc that these backups can take over. The verdict is reached by majority, meaning at least 5 as against 4. All 9 judges will discuss and come to a decision. I thought the 6 are jury as they sit by the side of the court and the 3 judges I suppose in the middle, which is a typical court setting. But when come to discussion time, the 3 judges will offer advice but not influence the 6 who will come to an independent decision, votes taken and pooled with the 3 professional judges. So basically you can say the 6 are jury but since the 3 judges' votes also taken into account rather than just presiding over the matter, in effect there are 9 judges, the majority vote wins. This is the new system in Japan and I can say this; damn confusing and in the end what trial normally takes years to complete in Japan will be stretched even more. The system has flaws; who are we to say the professional judges won't influence the lay judges? And in this series one of the lay saiban (as in lay judge) is a law student. Wouldn't that defeat the very purpose of a lay judge? Not to be legally trained? And since majority wins, I suspect in normal trial the professional judges will be very forceful and if you have 2 divided judge, there goes the votes! This series isn't about these flaws but it does in its way highlight some flaws that exists in normal jury system.

Comments
I admit the reason I came to know of this series is because of Keshin, the themesong by Fukuyama Masaharu. With the excellent song attached to the series, I downloaded the series, all 10 episodes of it from Tomalicious Fansubs, the subtitles excellent beyond belief. The problem is the series sucks big time. I find myself having to labour past 3 episodes, in fact I was tempted to abandon the series from the 1st episode onwards. I didn't watch the remainder of about 7 episodes until some time later, bit by bit but it was a very laboured sort of watching. I don't need to explain why except I present to you the ratings figure taken from Dramawiki:-

Viewership rating: 7.3 (Kanto)

That is pretty low as compared to Galileo that has an average rating of 21. Again I also admit I thought this series would be good firstly, due to the themesong, secondly because of the intriguing and one of the best TV series' poster I have ever seen and most importantly, I was swayed by my deep and favourable impression left by Galileo, that I thought all recent Japanese series would be as stylish, as clever and as entertaing. Again I admit I was dead wrong.

The story is simple. Young Toru is an unemployed designer. He designs T-Shirts. He has a reporter girlfriend. One day his name was picked as one of the lay saiban and he really wanted the job, because steady income for a period of time. Moreover it is a pretty free and relaxed job and the case in point involves a high profile murder case of a very old and very rich man, supposedly murdered by his younger, beautiful wife whom everybody labelled as a witch due to her unfortunate ability to attract tragedy in her life. All believes she is guilty, except for the woman's teenaged daughter (not born from that marriage but an earlier marriage where the husband also dies mysteriously) and eventually Toru's girlfriend. Toru was picked and he befriended 7 other lay judges (2 of whom are backups). We see very little of the professional judges by the way. From day one strange things was happening. All lay judges believes the witch to be guilty. All lay judges came from diverse background; a teacher, a law student, a housewife, an auntie, a GRO, an old man and a mousy Office Lady (OL) and of course Toru, the designer. And slowly each of them seems to change their verdict from guilty to not guilty as Toru himself was given an offer he couldn't refuse. Toru began to realise someone is influencing the votes and he formed an unlikely alliance with the young housewife, Izumi who has a young daughter and a husband away for work. Their closeness caused a deep and serious jealousy in Toru's girlfriend, Kaori who didn't believe Toru who believed the witch as seriously guilty. In the end even Izumi betrays Toru and Torus is forced to fight against the unseen forces, spies and his conscience to find the truth of the matter; did the witch killed the old husband?

10 episodes sounds reasonable for such a mystery. Problem is 10 episodes is way too long for this longwinded and awfully directed and badly paced series.

For one, episode 1 was a headache to watch. Sometimes style is good, as seen in Galileo, with the right balance of music, humour, wit and creative camera angles. The problem with this series is it is too concerned with being stylish that it just forgot there is only so much style when viewers expect a bit of substance as well. From the start, the music is way way way too loud. Every action is accompanied by a ching or ping or gong sounds, every surprised moment with some bright colours or freeze frames or spinning camera or some flashing lights. It goes on every few minutes or so that after 15 minutes of that continues sound, light, spinning camera and freeze frames that the series just gets on with telling the story. But it goes on and on episode after episode. The relief would come for just a few short minutes and then again the whole effects fly right to your face and my patience was running thin. All I wanted was to watch to the story, know the lot, immerse myself in the characters but what I got is a loud and flashy show that overwhelms the story to the point the story become secondary to all those loud and flashy effects. For all 10 episodes, lesser as it went along.

And whilst the story is intriguing, since I expected a real witch so to speak with some paranormal stuff thrown in, the witch in the title actually refers to the extreme evil in someone and their ability to fool the world. Yes, I just gave away the ending but well, I save you the dreaded epilepsy and what nots so I am sure you will be happy that I have away the ending this soon. The witch in question is a metaphor, not for real and I was severely disappointed. How the juries were influenced were rather interesting, sinister but eventually so badly executed, it was like extremely over the top. Take for example the gay teacher; pictures of him kissing a man plastered all over a brightly lit but in a deserted long tunner, like hundreds and hundreds of those pictures. Isn't that too dramatic? Then the kidnapping of Izumi's daughter, and more of such. All very dramatic, very flashy and lacking in subtlety. Usually that's not Japanese dorama style. I know they do go over the top, over emotional and all but in continous fashion hours after hours is indeed a strange new concept and I hated it. The way the discussion after the trial like "Oh guilty" or "Oh not guilty" as easily as that was amateur writing of a complex procedure. Interesting the 3 professional judges played very little role in the discussion. I expect them to influence the saibans! Of course the unseen forces need not bribe the professional judges since they need only 5 saibans to say Not Guilty. Sometime midway suddenly they all freaked Toru out by saying Guilty! I mean what is this? Child's plaything?

We get to see the witch herself, always looking morose, not smiling, dead serious, eyes downcast even at the end. Boring. She has no personality and you will be forgiven to wonder what's the fuss about when the story isn't even interested to show us her humanity or her evil or have us question whether she did it or didn't because all these drowned out by that stupid flashy loud effects. The murder scene, first speculated then the actual one really had no difference and always slow mo and always very dark. After like the 3rd repeat, I didn't quite care to watch what was shown since it was the same.

The characters neither garner our sympathy or our hatred. Well maybe hatred not towards the characters but the inadequate writing and performances. Of all the performances, only the actor Ikuta Toma who plays Toru resembles what I call a commendable acting. He looks fantastic, great hair but I sat with total disbelief that as a saiban the dress code is casual? Is Japan that relaxed in dress code coming from a society that bows as an apology instead of saying just the word sorry? But his acting was this series' saving grace. I like the character Toru who seems lazy and not even ambitious at first. I would expect him to be the first to fall even if everybody has one dirty little secret in their skeleton closet for the unseen forces to play around. But instead, he rose to the occasion and vowed to beat that unseen forces so it was him against everybody else. But for 10 episodes you see how he struggle, how he was influenced and not influenced, trying to convince everybody in the interest of justice to ignore their fears and greed... gets very tiring. I just skipped episodes and scenes.

The rest are just pretty standard stiff breathy performances. Maybe I was so influenced and impressed with Shibasaki Kou in Galileo that I expected all Japanese actresses to be like her; no breathy whisper. Funny thing I read that Kou was accused of being stiff! Seriously? In this series, the girlfriend speaks with a breathy whisper which I find suffocating and annoying. Always wide eyed and never anything else. Crazy maybe but not convincingly insane. The housewife, Izumi was worse. Breathy whisper, always a pause between sentences, hair by her side and her head always slidely bowed and always so sulky looking, I look at her and I feel constipated. I couldn't stand these 2 and after 3 episodes I have had enough of this style acting. I watched Gokusen and guess what? Shibasaki Kou and those performances in Galileo is really an exception to the general rule. Luckily I don't see the dreaded apron... well actually I did see but all those flashy interchanging scenes really distracted me, for once a good thing.

But none more worse than the unseen forces himself, from episode 1 we see a silver tipped hair guy with dark glasses in a dark basement or container or some dark room. How dramatic, how unnecessary. Wearing loud rocker pants that even rockers would throw away. He is the unseen forces, assisted by a leather clad female assistant as he slowly threatens each saibans to change their votes. We don't know who he is, except he is a professional guy when it comes to fixing jury and such. Problem is the actor is such an over the top overacting type of actor. And plus all those sound effects to every little thing he does (like fixing a label on a jury's picture, even that got flashy effects) and him smiling quite unconvincingly in his own "Look at me I am sinister!" way (that Roger Kwok got it down perfect in The Last One Standing), simply irritated me. He was beyond awful. And that revelation of who he is at the end was insignificant to me because it was said and done in seconds, again all those flashy sound effects.

The story itself is repetetive. It tries to be clever; it tries to be suspenseful, it tries to be dramatic, it tries to be mysterious but in the end it fell with a huge loud thud. It was not suspenseful because by 5th episode I kinda guess the ending, it wasn't dramatic because it was overly too dramatic that it just isn't dramatic anymore, it isn't even mysterious because we know how the old man died from the beginning. And if it is a critique about the new saiban system, clearly it fails terribly to highlight the obvious potential problem. This series just doesn't really know where to focus on and so focussed on too many thing at the same time that it confuses, confounds and deeply offends me as a viewer; because the story in the first 5 minutes was intriguing but after that it was seriously annoyingly boring.

Which teaches me a lesson; just because Galileo was great doesn't make all Japanese series in recent times great. Strangely it will garner fans intrigued by the storyline and the whole swoosh and woosh effects and sounds. I for one am only ever remotely interested in each episode simply for the ending theme that is Keshin, a song that this series does not deserve.

Verdict
Watch this to know why I feel Shibasaki Kou is probably the most refreshing Japanese actress I have ever seen. I also have had enough with those suspenseful "I am opening the box, opening, opening, going to open, will open, should I open, pull the string, wait don't pull, pull, not pull ..." moments that just had me going "JUST OPEN THAT BLOODY DAMN BOX!!!!!". To be fair, Suspect X and Galileo have their fair share of such moments too. But I just lost my patience with Majo Saiban's version because it was done in slow mo. That is it. I will refuse to watch crap anymore. Do not be fooled by its style; it has too much style that it drowns the story and the story is too predictable and repetetive and long winded that it makes the characters one dimensional and most one dimensional characters probably could have been better if they were better acted but this series, as in the major characters are acted by those actors who either laugh too much or speaks in breathy tones but again an actor is always influenced by the vision and direction of the director and the writer and the problem with this series is, the story at its very core is simply badly written and in the end badly director. So there you have it; to my total disbelief, Japan who comes out with original songs, melody and stories is capable of producing a 100% crappy series.

The Ending Revealed
I am not even gonna hide this since my theory was either her or the daughter and in the end I thought the witch herself having been the killer all along would be appropriate and indeed, yeah she did it. Poor Toru was played around. The ending was hims realising he was tricked. My interest was what comes after. None because the end. She would inherit the dead man's billions. I think the daughter knows because she played along as well. The mysterious unseen forces guy is actually Izumi's husband. She found out in the end when she saw a mystery letter and in it her husband's picture.
