At The Threshold Of An Era I [TVB]

Written by Babyblue

"Although not the most original storyline, ATE II was pretty entertaining.

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

SPECIAL MENTION
This is the review for ATE II (episodes 51-100),not ATE I (episodes 1-50).

CAST/CHARACTERS
GALLEN LO- YIP WING TIM
KENIX KWOK- KOH MEI NA
LOUIS KOO- CHEUNG CHI LIK
FLORA CHAN- HELEN FOK
ADA CHOI- TIN LING
GRACE YIP- YIP AH MAN
ROGER KWOK- MA CHI KUENG
LISA WONG- LISA YIP
CHUN PUI- YIP HOW LA
JOE MA- YIP WING JUN
MICHELLE SARAM- FAN
And a lot of veterans that I don’t know the names too!

Plot
Louis’ character wants revenge for his brother, played by Sunny Chan in ATEI, because he thinks that Gallen caused Sunny's death. He doesn’t know that Sunny died because of an infection to a certain type of medication and his drowsiness caused his fall down the mountain. Throughout the whole series, Louis is determined to make Gallen suffer for Sunny’s death. Many things happened as you can imagine from a 50-episode show. The main things are that: Ada lost her memory while trying to tell Louis that Gallen did not kill Sunny. She did not pay attention to an incoming truck and she was in a coma for a couple of episodes. When she woke up, she only remembered Gallen. She did like Gallen for awhile, but her feelings changed when she started to have feelings for Roger. Kenix’s character is Mei Na. Mei Na is the twin sister of Wing Yan (ATEI). She and Gallen fall in love, but a misunderstanding in the end causes them to separate for ten years. They did reunite and the ending is as happy as you can imagine. What happened to Louis? He died. (This scene is really touching, quite unexpected)

Best Performances
The veterans, Lisa Wong and Chun Pui were extremely good in this serial! They gave performances that made you feel what they were saying.

Gallen did such a good job with a script that has been tried and done many times. He was very convincing and you really do see why he is the big bro of TVB. He deserves all the success, even though ATE and ATEII aren’t the best serials, but Gallen is a wonderful actor.

Roger and Kenix added humor to this serial. Roger was the perfect naïve and sweet guy. You love him, and when he’s sad you just want to give him a big hug and say, “everything will be ok.”

Kenix totally surprised me with a stellar performance! She was so natural in the role of Mei Na. Never did I think that this was the same actress who played Wing Yan! She was great in this serial!

Good Performances
Really, with a script that is repetitive and not that original, all the actresses and actors did such a good job!

No one was bad in the serial except the mother of Gallen!

People have criticized Michelle Saram’s acting in the serial, saying she is smiling all the time. She has NO reason NOT to smile! She was very sweet in this serial!

And Grace Yip was very good in her role.

BEST SCENES
The part where Gallen was carrying his father up the stairs. The conversation they had was so touching and heartbreaking. I cried my eyes out! Any scenes involving Kenix/Gallen, Gallen/ Flora. The part where the baby of Joe Ma’s died. That was a great scene. One standout scene of Kenix/Gallen was when Gallen is very down and Kenix slapped him over and over him to wake him up from misery at the bar! Louis’ death. (That scene was very sad)

CRITICISM
No matter how cute Kenix/Gallen is, you wished Flora was here for the whole serial. Gallen/ Flora shares this INCREDIBLE chemistry. The script could have been more interesting. But the actors made it interesting.

BEST COUPLE
GALLEN/KENIX- REALY CUTE
ADA/ROGER- THEY HAVE A SWEET RELATIONSHIP
ADA/LOUIS- THE WAY SHE SUPPORTS MAKES YOU SMILE

FINAL THOUGHTS
ALTHOUGH NOT THE MOST ORIGINAL STORYLINE, ATEII WAS PRETTY ENTERTAINING. THE ACTORS ARE VERY TALENTED. I DON’T THINK ANYONE WOULD DISAGREE ITH ME ON THAT. IF YOU WANT AN ORIGINAL STORYLINE LIKE HEALING HANDS THEN THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR YOU! BUT IF YOU WANT GREAT ACTING, CUTE COUPLES, AND EMOTIONAL SCENES, THEN RENT THIS! RATING ON A SCALE FROM 1-10 (WORST – BEST), a
7

INTERSTING NOTES
EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR AN ENGLISH SONG PLAYED THROUGHOUT ATEII. FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T FOUND THE NAME OF THE SONG YET HERE IT IS: “PROMISES DON’T COME EASY” BY CARON NIGHTINGALE!!!!!!
